Women's Auxiliary (WA) of the Kendall County Fair Association

The Women's Auxiliary of the Kendall County Fair Association (WA of KCFA) was organized on January 24, 1967, by a group of 18 women and it has been a strong and effective program under the direction of the Kendall County Fair Association. As a program under KCFA, the Women's Auxiliary is subject to the rules and regulations of the Kendall County Fair Association Inc. and has become an integral part of the mission of KCFA.

It was created to support women as American entrepreneurs within the arts, education, agriculture, horticulture and business development so as to enhance our rural heritage and the quality of life within our community. The Women's Auxiliary operates as a strong and dependable ally to the Kendall County Fair Association, to assist with improvements and beautification of the buildings and grounds, and to aid in the overall operation of the Kendall County Fair Association.

Projects have included food booths, country store, bake sales, Oma's Christmas Craft Fair and improvement projects for the fairgrounds and buildings. All funding made by the Auxiliary is used to benefit and improve the mission of the Kendall County Fair Association, improve the KCFA grounds and facilities and to promote the women's program as part of the mission of the Kendall County Fair Association.

Oma's Christmas Craft Fair

The Oma's Christmas Craft Show is a wonderful two day event provided by the WA of KCFA each December each year. They welcome you to become a vendor and have a booth at the Craft Fair where over 100 vendors sell a variety of hand crafted items perfect for everyone's Christmas giving! It is a juried show for hand crafted items only and it fills three big buildings with craft booths that the whole family will enjoy. Come out and shop or come rent a booth to market your hand made wares!

History of the Women's Auxiliary

In 1913 the Herff family donated the land on FM 475 to the Kendall County Fair Association to enhance their mission and to be the site of the Kendall County Fair each year. The first Kendall County Fair was held in 1906 in downtown Boerne. At that time women helped in key advisory positions during the Fair in the exhibit hall. In 1913 the association appointed the first Lady Manager, Mrs. Martha Fabra. In the years that followed an Assistant Lady Manager was elected to assist the Lady Manager. In 2003 the two titles merged into Co-Lady Managers and the positions are elected at the associations annual member meeting held in January of each year.

On January 24, 1967, Lossie Holman opened her home to eighteen interested ladies to set and form the Women's Auxiliary of the Kendall County Fair Association and Ms. Ruby Bergmann served as the first elected President of the Auxiliary.

With a $50 loan from the KCFA Board the founding ladies were off to a start. Bake sales, Style Shows and other fundraising functions were held to obtain the needed funding for the program. After the success of their first fund raiser the "Ladies" as they are fondly called, reimbursed the $50 back to the Board because they were going strong! One of their first projects was to fix up the Old Dance Hall. The Ladies took tools in hand and went to work cleaning, scraping, washing, painting, and refinishing the "Old Hall". They also worked hard to rebuild the Grape Arbors, put in storage rooms and much more.

In 1979 the WA of KCFA published its first Cookbook, compiled of favorite recipes from cooks of Kendall County and the surrounding area. By popular demand, a second printing was completed and it also sold out! A new Cookbook was completed to celebrate KCFA's 100th Year and it continues to be sold by the Ladies. To obtain a copy, contact the WA of KCFA at the address above or email them through our Contact Us page.

The WA of KCFA holds monthly meetings at the Kendall County Fair Association grounds with great presentations that would be of interest to you! You are cordially invited you to join them for their meetings and to become a member of the Auxiliary.
