Livestock Show

Youth Agricultural Program & altLivestock Shows

The objective of this program is to promote agricultural education among area youth while enhancing academic achievement, cultural and environmental diversity, youth development and empowerment as we encourage economic growth and partnerships within the Texas Hill Country agricultural community.

Activities include Sponsorship of various types of agricultural events such as livestock shows, judging events, workshops, field days and club meetings. The facilities will also used by other county agricultural groups such as the Kendall County Soil & Water Conservation District, Agricultural Heritage Museum, Cibolo Nature Center, Alamo Resource Conservation & Development Area Inc., Kendall County Cooperative Extension Service to hold all types of agricultural educational programs to benefit the Agricultural Industry in the greater Hill Country area.

Coming Soon! Livestock Project Sponsorships for underprivileged or at-risk youth, and those with physical, mental, social or emotional challenges that generally would not be able to raise and show their own animal. These sponsorships are provided to youth who have been recommended through their agricultural teachers, sponsors or school officials, and who have completed an application that demonstrates need. The KCFA Livestock Project Sponsorships engage youth in projects both inside and outside required school courses that require more time developing problem solving and critical thinking skills as well as other academic and life skills. These sponsorships are available to youth within the boundaries of Kendall County.

Kendall County Fair Association Annual Labor Day Livestock Show:

alt

KCFA has been providing the guidance, organization and financial support to hold the county livestock show since its beginnings in 1905. Sanctioning these events began with the Texas Junior Livestock Association in the mid 70's. A great many volunteer hours are devoted to providing the youth of the greater Hill Country area and Texas with the opportunity to exhibit their livestock. KCFA offers the show for youth to exhibit their steers, heifers, lambs, goats, pigs, breeding swine and sheep at this event that is held in conjunction with the Kendall County Fair on Labor Day weekend. This show not only empowers over 170 youth annually with agricultural education but it also enhances their leadership skills, builds responsibility and provides for growth in self esteem through the awarding of ribbons, trophies, gift awards and premiums for our youthful participants.
