Kendall County Fair History
The first Kendall County Fair was held in Boerne in 1905 in the Opera House
On March14, 1913, a mass meeting was called for the purpose of organizing a Kendall County Fair Association and on July 1, 1913, the corporation charger was granted. The Herff family gave the land to the Association to be used for its activities. H.O. Adler was the first president and Miss Martha Fabra (Mrs. E. P. Heye) was appointed the first lady manager.
The Board of Directors now consists of 21 voting members and six Ex-Officio Directors, the latter including the County Vocational Agriculture Teachers, County Agricultural Agent, County Extension Agent, Lady Manager, and Assistant Lady Manager of the Women's Department.
Beautiful Herff Park, located on Hwy. 46 East, leading out of Boerne, is the home of the Kendall County Fair Association where the annual Kendall County Fair is held. The 60 acres included in the park were given to the Fair Association in 1913 by the Herff family from their extensive holdings east of town. The acreage is studded with live oak shade, which makes an ideal setting for the summer fair, and various other agriculture and livestock shows, as well as sports events and celebrations.
Our Goal / Mission
The Kendall County Fair is held annually (except during the war years when it was supplemented by one of more livestock shows each year) for the purpose of displaying the best agriculture products and livestock from Kendall County and the surrounding Hill Country area. Its purpose is educational and its' main objective is to encourage and develop farming and ranching in line with modern development. As an educational and social institution, the Kendall County Fair offers its patrons a real opportunity to participate in the benefits offered.
The Fair Association is non-profit, with officers and directors serving without monetary compensation. Any profits from the various activities held are used to further the interest of the association and for improving properties and the grounds.
2005 was our 100th anniversary! The Kendall County Fair Association would like to take this opportunity to welcome area citizens and visitors alike. The Fair would not be possible without the support of Boerne and the entire Kendall County and the extended service area. As we are reminded of our past and look to the future, we welcome your comments and hope that you will help us to make this a memorable and enjoyable Fair. We could not do it without you. |
